One small action = reaction

Being an author can be kind of overwhelming at times. The items on your to-do list seem to grow and grow, and when we're told that writing the next book is the best form of marketing there is, it can be easy to just focus on getting those words (and getting those words right!) and letting marketing fall by the wayside.

But that feeling of guilt - I should be doing something - lingers in the back of your mind, and every day you think 'Gah! I don't have enough time! How can I factor that in?'

This month, I'm focusing on doing one small marketing activity per week, and I'd love you to join me. That's it - just one thing. This doesn't have to be something big, but it can be if you want it to be, too. Where you'll focus your energy will differ from where the next person will. But I'll hosting weekly check-ins and goal-setting sessions over in the CREATING ink group on Facebook - and I'd love you to join me!

WHY THIS WORKS

One thing isn't overwhelming. One thing is achievable, and the best part is, you define what your one thing is, meaning you're choosing goals that are right for you.

But each one thing is taking a step. It's taking the power back, and it's making you proactive. It's sparking more marketing-related thoughts in your mind. And who knows? That one step you take could be the catalyst for a surge in sales.

Here are some examples of things you might include in your weekly goal-setting:

  • Update your website

  • Schedule a promotion on a back-list title

  • Send out five book review requests

  • Follow and engage with three authors you admire and consider peers

  • Share someone else's buy links

  • Promote your own buy links

  • Update your author bio

  • Update your Amazon Author pages

  • Learn one new thing about Facebook ads

  • Get onto the new Books2Read 'Reading Lists' promotion

... and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Let's tackle May one marketing task at a time, and let's do it together! You can join our Facebook group, where we'll be doing check-ins every Sunday this month, here.
